My Cousin is Gay Essay - 695 Words

My cousin Aaron has always known he can come to me with anything. He comes to me with any problems he has or just to share something. When he called me this time, he spoke very excitedly. He proceeded to tell me that he had found someone. This was no surprise to me because Aaron often dated different women. I asked him why this was so different, why so excited? He told me this was unlike any relationship he had ever had. I had to hear about this. Aaron was telling me how he had met this person at work and they became friends very quickly. He told me how kind and understanding this person was. I was happy for Aaron but, I wanted to know more. Todays society is more open minded but, there those that feel homosexual relationships are totally wrong. Interracial relationships are accepted more by society then they used to be. Hopefully some day soon, the average person will learn that love knows no boundaries and has no bias. Here were two people in love, hesitating to act on their feelings because of what others think. Aaron had started telling certain members of our family about Jake. His mother did not accept it at all. She wanted to disown Aaron and said many hurtful things to him. She was not having it that her son was a Faggot as she called him. Jake was afraid to tell the rest of his family, because he was sure they would not understand. Aarons mother and father hated Jake and blamed him for their discomfort. Aaron and Jake knew it was going to be a long and difficult road if they were going to stay together. Most people tend to steer clear of this subject, either because they do not understand it, or because they simply fear the word gay. There is also the religious factor, you can not be a Christian and engage in love with someone of the same sex. I wonder how anyone can say that a persons feelings are wrong, that it is not right to love someone of the same gender. Wade Summary or any similar topic only for you Order Now 113 (1973) Facts: Texas had passed a law that made it illegal for women who were expecting to have an abortion, unless, pursuant to medical advice, given to save the life of the mother. Jane Roe was an unmarried, pregnant woman. She was unable to get a lawful abortion in Texas because her life was not endangered by going through with her pregnancy. A law existed in Georgia at that time also and was heard as a case relating to it. Issue:Whether or not a pregnant woman has a constitutional right to terminate the pregnancy of her baby by means of abortion. The issue also involves whether or not it is in the state of Texas interests to preserve the life of the child and or mother, as well to establish under what conditions a medical abortion is allowed. Decision and Reasoning: The Roe v. Wade decision stated that a woman, with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy, and with restrictions in later months, based on the right to privacy.Roe v. Wade was decided primarily due to the Ninth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Court’s decision in this case was that the Ninth Amendment protected a woman’s (person’s) right to privacy. Critical Analysis The Supreme Court case I have discussed above of 1973 is one I believe may be overturned in the future. Although it has relevance to the ninth amendment as I have previous stated, there are a lot of people today that seem to disagree with the court’s decision. After reading this case brief I still hold my opinion of being, â€Å"pro-choice. † Having not made abortion completely illegal, while setting restrictions on it, was a smart thing to do, taken into effect the setting of this case. The Supreme Court not only compared its decision to the ninth amendment but also to the case related to it from Georgia. The decision of the case I have discussed held to be an appropriate one setting limitations on abortion will still allowing it for under the stipulations set forth by the Supreme Court. Out of all the organizational behavior practices, Wesfarmers should take the feedback of the employees and the implement teamwork in the workplace. The employees are not satisfied with the job and hence it is affecting the emotions of the organization. Wesfarmers experiences organizational behavior issues that decrease the performance level of the company. The improper organizational strategies within the workplace cause the employees to feel unsatisfied about the work that they perform (Goethals et al. 2014). Lack of employee management relations and employee dynamics is a factor behind the poor performance and imbalanced emotions of the employees in the workplace (Lapierre and Allen 2012). The existence of personality trait beyond the organizational norms is another major issue that Wesfarmers faces. The personality issue has an adverse impact on the organization as the relationship between the employees and the managers or between the employees is hampered. On the other hand, Wesfarmers follows authoritative leadership within the workplace. Therefore, the leaders of the company apply policies and procedures that the members has to follows. The authoritative leaders decide the goal of the company and they have direct control on all the activities performed in the organization. The type of leadership followed by the company does not allow the employees to participate in the process of decision-making (West 2012). The authoritative leadership has a negative impact on the employees as the employees are de-motivated and the confidence level is also lowered. In the opinion of Wilson (2013), authoritative leadership causes reduction in the anatomy in the team. Identifying the requirements and challenges in the OB strategy of Wesfarmers In order to address the issues taking place within the organization, Wesfarmers needs to implement proper strategies that help to overcome the issues. The organizational behavior strategies require proper designing such that all the issues of the company are covered. Identification of the requirements in the strategies is the primary task of the managers of Wesfarmers (Schreiner 2016). The requirements in the strategies vary from one organization to another, as the issues are different from each other. However, as the company has issues related to the emotions, personality, attitude and motivation within the workplace, the strategy development needs to be according to these concerns. The emotions of the employees can be managed by increase the interest of the employees through higher incentives, better working environment and improved communication. Although these requirements are effective in solving the issues, the company faces challenges of cost minimization (Kerzner 2013). In order to provide higher incentives, it is necessary for Wesfarmers to cut down its expenses. Furthermore, improved communication can be achieved by incorporating innovative strategies and technologies (Altman, Valenzi and Hodgetts 2013). Therefore, Wesfarmers have to deal with the challenges effectively to successfully achieve the objectives. The authoritative leadership followed by Wesfarmers is a serious issue that the company has been going through. The leadership style is needed to be changed in order to bring efficiency in the workplace. Effective leadership styles such as democratic leadership can be implemented in the organization to improved productivity in Wesfarmers, as employees are motivated through increased participation in the activities (Robbins and Judge 2012). Implementing the new leadership is challenging for the company as the leaders and the managers needs to make aware of the ill effects of authoritative leadership, which is difficult. The employees also need to adapt to the new changes that is time consuming and causes harassment within the organization. The organizational behavior plan of Wesfarmers is described based on the issues faced by the company in the areas of emotion, personality, attitude and motivation. The requirements in the development of the organizational behavior strategies in Wesfarmers are accessed along with the challenges that the company might face during its implementation. The proper identification and its implementation help Wesfarmers to achieve its organizational goals. Section-4 Final recommendations and conclusion Reviewing and revising the OB strategy plan to reflect the literature A proper organizational behavior plan helps Wesfarmers to deal with the issues within the organization. The organization needs to build up proper communication between the employees and the managers of the organization. Taking regular feedback from the employees allows the managers to become aware of the problems faced by the employees or determine the areas that need to be improved. The process of receiving feedback from the managers helps the staff members to understand the performance level of each individual working for the company. Regular feedback can increase the job satisfaction level within the employees, as they are continuously aware of the changes in the company and are guided by the leaders. The regular feedback motivates the employees that results in better performance of Wesfarmers. The teamwork within the organization further helps to achieve the goals of the organization in an efficient manner. Working as a teams helped the team members of Wesfarmers to increase their skills and knowledge as the team members are able to learn from each other within the team. Storey (2016) mentioned that teamwork increases the flexibility in the workforce through cross training. The OB model of Wesfarmers indicates that as the staffs are highly unsatisfied due the poor performance, the expected outcome is not achieved. Lack of teamwork, proper leadership style and inability to perform well is the cause of disputes in the organization among the employees. The improper management affects the organizational culture to a great extends. Conclusion and recommendation From the overall study, it can be inferred that the organizational behavior is an important concept in Wesfarmers. The employees are able to fee motivated as they feel important in the organization. Moreover, the emotions of the employees needs to be paid importance and this can be successfully achieved by applying strategies such leadership strategies, regular feedback and proper planning. The Velveteen Rabbit free essay sample

It further explores the progressive and dichotomous nature of what is ostensibly real against what is not. The plot of the Velveteen Rabbit traverses and meanders through various stages of psychological and internal growth counterpoised by declining external appearance, both driven forward by the power of love and acceptance from the Boy. The wisdom from the Skin Horse and the total as well as the final liberation of the Rabbit by the nursery magic Fairy’s wisdom and love, become quintessential. In the beginning, the Rabbit is splendid, ‘it is fat and bunchy, as a rabbit should be†¦ with real thread whiskers†¦ and ear lined with pink sateen†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ The eternal and sublime quest becomes, what a â€Å"Real and True Rabbit should be. † This depicts a picture so ‘magnificently charming’ and pleasantly ‘real’ that the Boy loves the Rabbit for at least two hours, until the end of the Christmas festivities when the Rabbit is put away and forgotten thus beginning the period when the Rabbit questions himself, his ‘realness’ and his place in the world or the nursery. We will write a custom essay sample on The Velveteen Rabbit or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The personal crisis and conflict the Rabbit proceeds to, is further exacerbated by the environment in the toy cupboard and nursery floor. The Rabbit harbors feelings of insecurity, loneliness and insignificance as the other toys act superior than him, boasting and bragging about their importance and how real they were compared to him. His salvation begins with the friendship and wisdom Skin Horse shows him. In contrast to the young toys, Skin Horse is vibrant and mature, both on the outside and inside; wise, old and tattered. He begins to take the Rabbit on a Socratic journey of self-discovery. He responds quite aptly to the Rabbit’s question, â€Å"What is REAL? † with the profound words, he responds, â€Å"Real isn’t how you are made†¦It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real. † Hence this essay argues that love has transformative power and is at its core, essentially a force for transformation and self-discovery. In addition to answering the Rabbit’s questions about what is Real. Skin Horse expands on the nature and process of Love. He emphasizes to the Rabbit that becoming Real is a process – a painstaking and long process that often hurts and is not for the fragile and thin-skinned. It ages and weathers the beloved although this is immaterial to the one that loves. So becoming Real is a dialogic and symbiotic process between the two – one even though long and hurtful, is ultimately worthwhile and process. In telling the Rabbit, â€Å"†¦Once you are Real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Skin Horse is elucidating for the Rabbit, that becoming Real and self-actualized that when one is loved, it is a progressive and never a regressive process. Furthermore, this process entails external and physical demise or ‘death’ which is countered by this psychological resurrection, renewal and growth. The true transformative agency of love and engagement begins in earnest as the Boy starts playing, sleeping and loving the Rabbit after his china dog went missing. This process is the authentic genesis of the Rabbit becoming Real at least to the Boy. Like Skin Horse who talks to and shows appreciation and warmth towards the Rabbit, the Boy in turn, continues where Skin Horse left off. He talks to, plays with, loves and appreciates the Rabbit even as his outward appearance is deteriorating. The Boy’s love eventually exposes and defends the Rabbit’s Realness, when Nana, who does not see the Rabbit as Real says, â€Å"Fancy all that fuss for a toy,† the Boy retorts strongly; â€Å"†¦ He isn’t a toy. He’s REAL! † In return, when the Boy gets scarlet fever, the Rabbit returns all the care, love and compassion he had shown him such that he became Real, thus the tale reaches its literary climax. As the story winds towards the resolution, the remaining elements of becoming and indeed being Real are realized. First, the Rabbit becomes not only Real to the Boy, but to Nana as well, who notices this and exclaims; â€Å"I declare if that old Bunny hasn’t got quite a knowing expression. The ultimate revelation of the Rabbit as Real is however realized when the nursery magic Fairy informs the Rabbit that: â€Å"You were Real to the Boy†¦ because he loved you. Now you shall be real to every one,† thus completing the Rabbit’s journey to becoming Real by making him Real through giving him hind legs or the ability to become part of the group to the wild Rabbit and everyone else. The essence of the transformation therefore is that in the beginning, Real i s visible and in the eye of beholder but ultimate and true Real is, in the end, in the eyes of all who behold the beloved.
